The history of the hotel and legendary Café Central is inseparable connected with XIX century history of Katowice. Under the name of Monopol hotel was opened in 1903 and surely was one of the most luxurious places in Poland of the 20’s. The prosperity of the hotel was in the 20’s of XX century. Monopol was a favorite place for meetings of financial, artistic and intellectual elite. In May of 1934 Karol Szymanowski have stayed here, and at October 31, 1936 Jan Kiepura and Marta Eggerth had here their wedding. Hotel was visited also by Artur Rubinstein, Tadeusz Boy-Zelenski, Eugeniusz Bodo. Now, 100 years after founding hotel was artistry renovated and waits for their guests.
